Rockcast Wednesday.09.30.09a; Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, La Roux, Def Archie Leppard, Cat Stevens, Yes, Willie Nelson, Breeders

By now you have probably seen the video of
teens in Chicago beating another to death with
clubs and stomping. Suspects caught on video
have been apprehended. What was dumbfounding
to me is the attitude of the suspects Mothers.
In the video one teen is seen swinging a large hunk
of wood and smashing a person already on the ground
in the head. The other suspect is seen stomping on
the victims head. The clubbers Mom said her son was
only defending himself from the hapless semi conscious
victim. The stompers Mom said her son wasn't even
there, he was home with her. Even though scores of
witnesses place him at the scene and he has been I.D.'
in the video. The victim's mistake was being an observer
watching a fight. Wrong place wrong time. The total
disregard for this poor boys life is appalling to me. The
parents of teens who have no respect for others or
even for life should be charged with a crime. There is
no excuse or justification that can be given for such
actions. Would you lie for your child to cover up a crime?
Do you have so little respect for anothers loss of their
child you would do that? Total bummer.

Dear Big AL

they have no bite-inhibition. Neither the sons nor the mothers. The same here. Fights, man I had my share of that. But once you had the other guy down it was stop. Not any more.

Don't get me wrong, we also didn't care about what we did to the opponent. So broken noses were seen (e.g. with me), bruises or loss of some teeth.

But there were some rules few doubted or dared to violate. The most important one was if you keep on hitting on a man who can't defend himself you're out.

Out of the game, out of the group. So even a savage would eventually learn observing limits by loneliness.

And if someone hit or stomped on a guy down we stoppped him the hard way. We, not me. The same if some jerk pulled a knuckleduster or a knife. It happened. The A said go and bang the lights went out. But groups don't seem to work like that any more.

Back to music. The Nashville Teens Stomp was amazing, also the second helping of the Moonshine Bandits. The Leftside Wobble Remix was interresting. First I had some problems to understand why making a weird song weirder. But recalling the times when I still used - let's say mind-expanders did the trick. That's audio dope! Non-prescription and completely legal. I also recognized it when you played Chemical Bros and wondered if you would have a follow-up. Cheers to Jonathan M.

Why are the keys smoking? Lord I did it again. Okay just some suggestiones and I'm gone.

One for the folks who thought the best AC/DC cover was by Joan Jett (played on Rockcast). Think twice and check out Angry Anderson & Sarah McLeod - Highway to Hell. Live, crude and yet... The second was a veritable chartbuster in the eighties. Saraya - Love Has Taken It's Toll. When you about three weeks ago reminded me how good Cat Stevens really was I listened to my old stuff again. So the third is a song and a singer I had completely forgotten about. Gilbert O'Sullivan - You Got Me Going. No fooling around, that's Rock.

Thank you for the music and Long Live Rock(cast)

Hey Dino, I'm getting this mental image of you in the streets of Britain fighting like the Mods and Rockers....

Hey Leo,

not much like that, I'm afraid. Pro side, I didn't have to go suicidal after finding out that my hero is a bellhop.

I admit it sounds like a glory days thing. Blame it on acute nostalgia. What I really meant was that young males establishing a pecking order by fighting is ok with me. Senseless violence and bloodlust is not.

A little like the hunters. Hunt for a prey and eat it. Shure. Hunt for the kill and let it rot away is amoral.

It's a big country, but are there any moral standards left that the majority of you americans agree about? Sometimes I think over here the only thing left we all do agree upon is that drinving on your side of the road is a bad idea...

Dino,

Big country, small minds.

Bellboy, carry the bloody baggage out...

...girls of 15 (sexually knowing)...

Quadrophenia is a masterwork, the pinacle of concept albums, as good or better than any Gilbert and Sullivan. Great album art too. I love the Vespa, were the mirrors a cultural thing, or is the picture in the album taking it to extremes?

Hey Leo,

ask him.

Sometimes you get drawn into a movie. Quadrophenia did that for me, but the worst was Trainspotting. Great novel, too. Since that time all young girls "ahead of their time" I collectively name Diane.
